This is Hope for Homeless

We, Nandia and Marios, are a married couple from Cyprus and have dedicated our lives to the four-legged angels. Years ago, as far back as 2014, we took abused and abandoned dogs into our home just until an organization could find a home for them.

By chance, we met a lady who had 50 sheltered dogs and was desperately looking for a place to protect them from being put down by the municipality. On my way to work, I (Nandia) saw some stables that were for rent. I discussed it with the owner, we came to an agreement and the lady was finally able to keep the dogs safe. We went there every day, I helped clean while Marios made beds for the dogs to be more comfortable. A year later, we decided to rent the remaining half of the property and create our own shelter. That’s what happened then, Hope for Homeless Cyprus was finally born!

We have been running the shelter for 8 years now and have rescued hundreds of dogs in the meantime. We, the owners as well as the volunteers, became one big family, the family of “Hope for Homeless Cyprus.” We have adoptions in Cyprus, as well as in England, Scotland, Belgium and the Netherlands. Our family has also grown in the Netherlands, where we now have a team dedicated to helping us find the best homes for our dogs, both in the Netherlands and in Belgium.

Unlike many others, our shelter is totally dependent financially on outside income such as gifts and donations. There is no financial support from municipal, provincial or national money pots. Everyone associated with the family of Hope for Homeless does this voluntarily, out of love for dogs, in addition to their own private, work or studies. That makes it difficult, but also very valuable.

The past few months have been the most challenging for our shelter. The owner of the plot was not meeting his payment obligations to the bank, although we were paying him monthly rent. Altamira Asset Management Cyprus Ltd seized the plot and terminated our contract. This threatens to put our dogs back on the streets.

Fortunately, we found a new plot, and thanks to donations from our volunteers and our loyal followers, we were able to purchase it. Meanwhile, this piece of land has been fenced and can be cultivated. For that, we need your financial support again to build our new shelter. The total cost of the project is estimated at €120,000. We appeal to the whole world, animal lovers, volunteers, dog caretakers, to all of you who love the work we do and what we strive to do to help these souls. We do not want them to be out on the street for the second time.
